These past few months have been crazy, to say the least. I have so much to say, yet my mind is at a loss as to where I should begin.
It took a pandemic to stop the world and see the reality. To actually slow down and actually face reality. To realize how much of the world is and has been in dire pain. And to breathe and take in all that we are missing, and the things we’ve been blessed with. To see ourselves and our loved ones after all that movement.
Stop, reflect, and heal. So much of me has been lost in the process of running. Literally and figuratively. There’s so much to uncover, yet so little time and headspace are given to do so. I, too, am struggling to remember this – the process of slowing down. But I know I will somehow get there.
Remembrance.
And for all that befalls us, it too shall pass. We must remember that calamities are bound to happen in all societies. If it weren’t for them, we as humans would never change. We wouldn’t learn, overcome, and use our power to protect the things we have the capability of doing so. It’s all a form of remembrance. That we as humans may plan, but Al-Rahman Ir-Rahim forever remains the best of planners.
From the beautiful and wise words of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), “Trust in God, but tie your camel.” And though we may not fully understand the reasons many things in this world happen, we remain obligated to trust in our Creator, but equally, do the work that will allow us to sustain and protect ourselves and those around us. I remember first hearing this quote from papa while explaining to me, Aisha, and Sumaya about life. It’s a reminder so simple, yet impactful.
To the uncertain heart and mind, you are being heard. To the struggling who’s feeling powerless, you are being seen. And may the strength and power of our collectivism never go unnoticed, and may it fully be fueled with the remembrance our mind, body, and soul needs. And may this be a reminder for myself, and to all, to never be in despair despite all the hurt in the world.
